Lodoja and age barrier

AT the Accord Party’s primary
election for Oyo State governorship
race held in Ibadan on Monday 8
December 2014, Alhaji Abdu
Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, an
erstwhile Senator and executive
governor of Oyo State was duly
elected as flagbearer of the party in
the election.
Prior to the election, some persons
had a dissenting view
about his
intention to contest citing advanced
age.

Age to my mind should not be a
barrier because it has got nothing to
do with election. Our constitution
does not even place age limit to any
elective position such as
governorship.

Alhaji Ladoja therefore has the
inalienable right as a citizen of the
state to contest. Afterall he had
done it once and he has many
things which stand as credit to his
administration.

As an example, shortly after
assuming office in 2003, he
embarked upon a series of beneficial
things to the people such as a
vibrant economy, free education at
all levels, gainful employment for
the citizens of the state especially
young school leavers, agriculture
received a boost through
encouragement to farmers,
communications was greatly
improved through construction of
new ones and rehabilitation of the
extant ones.

Health sector was not left out of his
political plans . Civil workers as well
as pensioners received their
stipends or allowances regularly and
promptly.

Social amenities like good water
were regularly made avaialble to the
people of the state. He was
particularly keen in the welfare of
workers promotion being basically
on merit. Peace also manifested
itself throughout the period of his
administration which to my mind
stand as credit to hid.

His exemplary character is another
worthy of note because of his
compassion for fellow men and
women particularly his readiness to
help the needy at all times if
approached.

Quarters, Ibadan.
